Plainfield’s SMART waste-facility petition moves into hearings
The Connecticut Siting Council has scheduled a September 30 pre-hearing conference and October 22 public-hearing and public-comment sessions for SMART Technology Systems’ proposed 45-megawatt trash-to-energy facility in Plainfield. The petition concerns six O&G Industries-owned parcels east of Route 14 and west of the Providence and Worcester Railroad right-of-way. Plainfield is participating as a party and CEPA intervenor after voters backed $250,000 for legal representation opposing the proposal. These are review proceedings, not a permit approval or construction notice.
