What we collect, plainly

What you send us

When you use the tip form, the contact form, or submit a listing, we receive what you typed — your name, email address, and your message or listing details. We use it only to reply to you and to decide what to publish. We don't sell it or share it with advertisers.

Anonymous click counts

We count how often readers tap "Send a tip" and "Share the Brief," along with the page it happened on. No names, emails, or identifiers are attached.

Advertising measurement

This site uses the Meta pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram). It records that a browser visited a page here, so we can measure how our Facebook and Instagram posts perform and show follow-up ads to people who have visited the site. Meta receives your IP address, browser information, and the page address, and may store it in a cookie. We do not send Meta your name, email address, or anything you type into a form.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are not tracked at all: the pixel is never loaded there, and the same applies when we cannot determine a visitor's location. No cookie banner appears because no advertising cookie is set for those visitors.

Anywhere else, you can opt out through your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, by using your browser's tracking protection or a content blocker, or through your state's opt-out rights where they apply. Your browser's "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal is honored where the law requires it.
