- Warehouse associates, fork-lift operators and shift leads are among the Uline roles; starting pay is posted with each listing.
Services and deadlines
Meetings and votes worth a minute
- Spotted lanternfly season: check trees, firewood and outdoor furniture for egg masses before you move them, and report sightings to the state.
- Town clerks' offices post meeting agendas at least 24 hours ahead — most are on the town website the Friday before.

Markets and local food
Markets are in their best weeks
- Eight markets are on our list — five in the Quiet Corner (Danielson, Putnam, Brooklyn, Plainfield, Ashford) and three just outside (Lisbon, Scotland, Willimantic) — most winding down between late October and early November.
- In season now: apples, winter squash, late tomatoes, cider, and the first storage onions and potatoes.
- Several markets accept SNAP, WIC and Senior FMNP coupons — check at the manager's table.
- Seasonal tip: an apple and peanut butter wrap travels well. Skip it if anyone in the house has a peanut allergy.
- Rain plan and parking notes are listed on each market's card on the markets page.
Volunteer or community
Where hands are needed
- Putnam's Wall That Heals week showed what volunteer muscle can do; remaining funds are going to area veterans.
- Libraries, land trusts and market managers across the region take weekend help — most ask for an hour or two.
- Market managers often need help with set-up and break-down on market mornings — ask at the manager's table.
- Town libraries welcome shelvers and program helpers; land trusts post trail-work days through the fall.
