Thompson wetlands panel approves two projects with limits

Thompson’s Inland Wetlands Commission unanimously approved two applications on October 13, according to town minutes that remain marked unapproved. At 700 Riverside Drive, IWA26041 permits tailrace backfilling, concrete demolition and minor grading; it does not approve paving. At 241 County Home Road, IWA26042 permits a 90-foot culvert replacement with low/no-flow work conditions, no start when storms are forecast within three days, and an inspection after riprap installation. These are wetlands-permit decisions, not evidence that construction is complete or that other required approvals have been obtained.

Brooklyn leaf pickup begins Nov. 5

Brooklyn says 2026 leaf pickup begins Thursday, Nov. 5. Leaves must be loose and curbside; the Town says not to use bags and warns that branches, trash, rocks, grass, and other foreign material will be left for the homeowner. The notice says only one load per house will be collected. Residents may take leaves to the Transfer Station free on open days.

Brooklyn Transfer Station returns to winter hours Nov. 4

Brooklyn posted Oct. 20 that the Transfer Station will return to winter hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4, after daylight-saving time ends Nov. 1. The posted schedule is Wednesday and Friday, 10 AM–4 PM, and Saturday, 8 AM–4 PM. Residents planning leaf disposal should check the Town page for later changes. Holiday exceptions are not stated in the notice.

Eastford bridge work is scheduled for April 2027

Eastford’s First Selectman reports that changes in CTDOT reimbursement procedures and town contracts mean participating towns must finance project stages before seeking reimbursement. The town has advertised for a financial advisor and is exploring a line of credit to protect cash flow. Construction of the Ashford Road bridge over Bigelow Brook is currently scheduled to begin April 1, 2027, with detours to be posted later. The Old Colony Road bridge is expected about a year afterward, but the financing approach and schedule may change.

Building Committee: no October 14 actions; next meeting November 4

The Building Committee's official minutes say its Oct. 14 meeting never occurred because there was no quorum. That means the agenda's proposed invoice approvals, project updates and 2027 meeting dates were not adopted. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 4. Official Building Committee agenda: https://www.thompsonct.org/building-committee/agenda/building-committee-135

Read the official minutes and check the November 4 agenda before attending. No invoice approval is inferred from the October 14 agenda.

Civic Briefing — October 12–18 official records

For the October 13 wetlands votes and their limits, see the Thompson Top Story above. The town’s published minutes remain marked unapproved. The Building Committee had no quorum on October 14, so its proposed invoice approvals were not adopted. See Community Corner for the November 4 follow-up. Records gap: Thompson’s October 15 Board of Finance agenda lists potential Library HVAC action, but the official minutes archive has no October 15 result.
