Brooklyn Town Hall: damage reported after October 3 crash

Brooklyn’s October 3 official notice reports that a vehicle struck Town Hall at 4 Wolf Den Road near the Route 6/Route 169 junction. Only minor injuries were reported, but the east-side brick wall sustained significant damage and a support beam required shoring. The Town said the wall was boarded and a contractor was scheduled to assess structural soundness; CTDOT repaired a damaged crosswalk sign. No later repair or reopening update was found in the checked notices, so confirm current access before visiting. [1]

Eastford: grant deadline, tabled C-PACE release and fire-truck lettering

Eastford’s posted October 5 meeting record reports receipt of $14,635 in FY2027 Supplemental Municipal Assistance Grant funding, to be spent by January 1, 2027. It records a unanimous decision to table a C-PACE partial release pending Town Attorney clarification, along with reposting the financial-advisory-services RFP after no proposals were received. It also records unanimous approval to use a $2,000 Ford F350 rebate for custom Fire Department truck lettering. The document carries a future November 9 approval line above blank signatures, so these are attributed to the posted meeting record—not presented as formally approved minutes. [2]

The brief notice does not publish additional preparation rules in its readable text. Call before setting material out and confirm the Town’s current pickup instructions. [3] [4]

Seasonal recipe

Slow Cooker Butternut Squash Soup

A seasonal squash-and-apple soup adapted from UNH Extension; makes about 6–8 one-cup servings. An adult should handle peeling the squash and blending hot liquid.

  • 2 cups vegetable stock or broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled and diced
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, cored and diced
  • 1 medium butternut squash, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/8 teaspoon sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk

Combine the broth, garlic, carrot, apple, squash, onion and seasonings in a slow cooker. Cook 6–8 hours on low or 3–4 hours on high, until the squash is completely tender. Stir in the milk, then carefully puree in small batches, starting at low speed; hot liquid expands. Follow your blender’s hot-liquid instructions.

Allergens: Contains milk, a common allergen. Check the vegetable-broth label for additional allergens; use a clearly labeled allergen-safe broth if needed.
