Pomfret: a plain guide to the town

Pomfret was incorporated in June 1713 and is one of Connecticut's oldest towns. It sits in the middle of the Last Green Valley — winding roads, stone walls, farms and long views — and the town says plainly that it means to keep it that way. Israel Putnam's wolf den is here, in Mashamoquet Brook State Park.
Town offices
Town hall is at 5 Haven Road in Pomfret Center. The hours below come from a title company's town summary rather than the town's own page, so treat them as a guide and ring ahead.

Pomfret Public Library is on Pomfret Street.

Schools
Pomfret Community School covers pre-K to grade 8. The town is also home to two private boarding schools, Pomfret School and the Rectory School, which are not part of the district.

Outdoors and history
Mashamoquet Brook State Park runs to over a thousand acres and takes in the former Wolf Den and Saptree Run parks — hiking, camping, fishing and swimming. The Air Line Trail, an old railway bed, crosses the town for walking, cycling and riding, and the Connecticut Audubon Center has grassland and birding trails.
