Thompson and North Grosvenordale: a plain guide to the town

Thompson is the northeastern corner of Connecticut, against both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and it is really ten villages — North Grosvenordale, Grosvenordale, Fabyan, Quaddick, Thompson Hill and the rest. Its history runs with the mills on the Quinebaug and French rivers. Town business happens on Riverside Drive in North Grosvenordale.
Town offices
Town hall and the recreation department share 815 Riverside Drive.

- Senior programmes — TVCCA lunches, crafts — run from the Louis Faucher Community Center at 815 Riverside Drive. Senior services case coordination is for residents 60 and over.
Library
The Thompson Public Library shares the Louis P. Faucher Community Center building further up Riverside Drive.

Schools
The district office is on Riverside Drive, in the same building as the elementary school.

- Thompson Middle School and Tourtellotte Memorial High School are part of the district; their own addresses and numbers aren't printed on the district pages we read.
Parks and playgrounds
Thompson lists eight town parks of its own, plus a state park and the dam recreation area.
- Bull Hill Recreation Area — Messier Road: walking, birds, soccer.
- Heritage Way Park on the French River — Riverside Drive: walking and cycling path, fishing, boating.
- Riverside Park — Marshall Street: path, fishing, softball, basketball.
- Duhamel Park and pond — Main Street: fishing, picnics, skating in winter.
- Grosvenordale Common — Route 200 at Riverside Drive: swings and a hoop.
- Mechanicsville Park — Old Route 12, and Wilsonville Playground at Wilsonville and Wagher Roads: playgrounds for ages 5–12.
- Community Playground — Central Street, Rivermill Village.
- Quaddick State Park — Quaddick Town Farm Road.
- West Thompson Dam Recreation Area — Route 193: boating, camping, disc golf. Reservations 860-923-2982.
Trails
The town's trails committee publishes maps for the walks below. The River Walk through North Grosvenordale is paved and accessible.
- North Grosvenordale River Walk — 3.2 miles, paved, accessible.
- Airline Trail, Border Trail, Bull Hill loop, Fabyan River Trail and Fisherman's Walk.
- West Thompson Lake trails and the Tri-State Marker Trail.
- Tamler Preserve, kept by the Wyndham Land Trust.
Rubbish and recycling
The transfer station is on Pasay Road and closed Sunday through Tuesday.

Town hall's own consolidated hours page isn't one we could read, so we haven't printed opening times for the clerk's office; a first-Saturday morning opening is reported elsewhere but not confirmed.
