Eastford: a plain guide to the town

Eastford split from Ashford in 1847 — the name simply means the eastern part of Ashford. It is one of the smallest towns the Brief covers, with around 1,650 residents, and most of Natchaug State Forest lies inside it.
Town offices
The selectmen's office keeps split hours and is open late on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

- There is a Senior Citizens Committee and a Recreation Commission — the recreation commission runs the Easter egg hunt, the Memorial Day bike parade, Experience Eastford and bus trips.
Library
The library is in the Ivy Glenn Memorial Building. The hours below come from the library's own published update rather than a town page.
- Eastford Public Library: 179 Eastford Road. 860-974-0125. Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m.–6:30 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.–noon.
School
Eastford Elementary School is the town's school; there is no town high school.

Outdoors
Natchaug State Forest runs through the town, with its entrance off Pilfershire Road. It is used for riding, fishing and riverside picnics, and takes in the General Lyon historic site and the Silvermine horse camp. The town also keeps a Crystal Pond Park commission.

Rubbish and recycling
Hazardous waste goes to the regional drop-off in Willington, not to Eastford.
- Transfer station: 264 Westford Road. Wednesday 1–3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
- Household chemical waste: 60 Hancock Road, Willington. 9 a.m.–2 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month, mid-April to mid-October. 860-965-1910.
What we're still confirming
The library's hours come from its own newsletter rather than a town page, so they may move. Crystal Pond Park has a town commission but we found no published address or opening times, and which high school Eastford students attend isn't stated on the town's pages. If something here is wrong, tell us and we'll fix it the same week.
