Brooklyn: a plain guide to the town

Brooklyn was incorporated in 1786 and sits at the geographical centre of Windham County, about 29 square miles with some 60 miles of road. Its historic centre is on Route 169, a scenic byway, with the old courthouse now holding town offices. It is also home to the oldest agricultural fair in Connecticut.
Town offices
Town hall is on Wolf Den Road and is closed on Fridays.

- Quinebaug Valley Senior Center: 69 South Main Street. 860-774-1243. Monday–Friday 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Meals Tuesday–Friday at 11:30 a.m., reservations required. It serves eleven towns, not just Brooklyn.
Library
The Brooklyn Town Library keeps mornings on three days and afternoons on the other three.

Schools
Brooklyn runs a pre-K to grade 8 district from Gorman Road; older students go to high school elsewhere.

Outdoors
Davis Forest is the big one — 126 acres bought by the town in 1998 and set aside as open space in 2004, with a trail along the Quinebaug past an old mill site, a scenic river overlook and a disc golf course.
- Davis Forest and disc golf course — Salmon Drive. Red trail 1.25 miles one way along the river; overlook trail and yellow loop half a mile each.
- Donald Francis Recreation Park and tennis courts — Prince Hill Road at Route 6.
- Maury Bowen Complex at Riverside Park — 24 Greenway Drive.
- Michael Dragon Complex at Prince Hill Park — 95 Prince Hill Road.
- Other listed walks: Creamery Brook Trail, Blackwell Brook Trail, the Carol Randall Memorial Nature Trail and the Williams/Ferguson Sanctuary.
Rubbish and recycling
The transfer station's hours change with the clocks.
