Ashford: a plain guide to the town

Ashford was settled in 1710 as New Scituate and incorporated in 1714. It covers about 39.5 square miles with roughly 4,300 residents, and is still run by town meeting with a three-member Board of Selectmen. This guide is the practical part — where the offices are, when the library is open, and where you can walk.
Town offices
Town business runs out of the Ashford Town Office Building on Town Hall Road. The building is closed on Thursdays.

Library
Babcock Library is on the second floor of Knowlton Memorial Hall — a 1923 building on the National Register of Historic Places that once held the town offices, the library and a school together.

School
Ashford School is a single pre-K to grade 8 school on Westford Road; the town has no high school of its own.

Outdoors
The town lists four walking places of its own. Langhammer Trail runs through Ashford's largest town-owned open space — more than 72 acres off Lustig Road — and connects by a spur to Willington's Fenton Ruby Park.

Rubbish and recycling
The transfer station takes single-stream recycling and needs a resident sticker. Household hazardous waste goes to the regional facility in Willington rather than to Ashford.

Two town pages give different closing times for the senior centre — 4 p.m. on the centre's page, 3 p.m. in the staff directory — so ring before a late visit. Which regional high school Ashford students attend isn't stated on the pages we read. If something here is wrong, tell us and we'll fix it the same week.
